POST No. 2407288
Firmware-Update via Linux
2019-02-11 03:16:39 patrick

Hello,

I have bought some XM540 and noticed they have different firmware-versions. I like to upgrade them to have all the same FW-version. But I only have Linux-systems. Is it possible to upgrade the firmware via Linux? Possibly via a Python-script or similar? How can it be done?

Thank you very much.

Hi,

Thank you for your inquiry.

As of now, using R+Manager 2.0 would be the only way to upgrade the Dynamixel firmware.

However, we are currently under the process to release Dynamixel management software that supports Linux.

It'll be available by the early March at the latest.

Thank you.

Hi,

this sounds promising. Looking forward to get hands on your solution.

Where will I find it? (What will be the name?)

Thank you.

Hi.

PS: Are there somewhere Release Notes to show what has changed from firmware-version to the next firmware-version?

Thank you.

Check out "Help > About Dynamixel Firmware" menu.
You'll be able to see the release note for each DYNAMIXEL

Hi.

I was able to try it and could successfully update the firmware of the XM540. :-)

However I also have some MX12W and the firmware-update to FW41 just says "failed". Do you have any ideas what I can try? It just said "failed", no further information was given. Glad the motor was still operational afterwards.

(Also I wonder why you don't use a broadcast-ping for the scan-operation in Dynamixel Wizard 2.0 Beta, as it would increase the speed of detection dramatically?)

Thanks.
