Updating the firmware has blocked my DYNAMIXEL XM430-W350-R

My settings is:

1 U2D2 (I always use this component. I connect to the dynamixels only from PC/Laptop USB.)

1 DYNAMIXEL XM430-W350-R (it was adquired six months ago)

1 SMPS2Dynamixel

2 cables (RS385)

Laptop with Windows 10 x64

R+-Manager 2.0 (Protocol 2.0)

I admit the Dynamixel  worked perfectly. However, I decided to update the firmware. Using the Robotis Wizard tool (the first time I used it.) I tried to update the Dynamixel firmware. Sadly, The update "failed" for unknown reasons (?). From there, the dynamixel does not respond to connection attempts from the Wizard or from the R+-Manager.  Then I try to "restore" the firmware through the R+-Manager firmware recovery tool. 

I turn the dynamixel power off and on following the instructions, but unfortunately it seems that the recovery tool does not detect the Dynamixel. 

It always remains with the yellow window blinking: " Only one DYNAMIXEL should be connected to the port when recoverying the DYNAMIXEL firmware." 

Indeed, It seems that the U2D2 is scanning continuously because several U2D2 lights flicker rabidly.

I tried repeatedly. I turn it off and on again. I leave the application and go back in... That's when I realize that the Dynamixel red light doesn't come on when I turn it on (!!). The same result.  

Logically, I'm worried about this. I do not feel/I'm not aware that I have committed any fault in the protocol that justifies this crisis. I understand that the firmware has been corrupted but I am sure that this situation is well anticipated by Robotis. What can I do about it?

Help! :-(


PS: Of course the product to be updated is correctly selected in the list (XM430-W350).

Please try the firmware recovery process with DYNAMIXEL Wizard 2.0 and see if it fixes the issue.

Also, please try unplug the cable and plug back in to DYNAMIXEL before turning on the power switch on U2D2 PHB.

Ok. I tried the Dynamixel WIZARD 2.0. The same result. :-((

Sadly i have not the US2D PHB. I have the "basic" U2D2 and the SMPS2Dynamixel. In this scenario, do you mean the "data" cable (U2D2 to Dynamixel), or the power cable (SMPS2Dynamixel to Dynamixel)? Both?

I mean, instead of power cycling with SMPS plug, please try unplug and plug the connector(which provides power) of DYNAMIXEL.

It is very unlikely to happen, but your DYNAMIXEL bootloader could be corrupted.

If above method does not work, please request repair service.

I have tried several times to unplug and plug the connector (which provides power) of DYNAMIXEL without result. The red light motor does not turn on, and the motor is not detected for recovery.  I've tested the cable and SMPS2Dynamixel with other motor without a problem. 

Right now I'm on a research stay that ends this week. When I return to home I hope to try it again during next week with all the necessary peace of mind. Then i will re-re-read this thread.

Wait for my news, please.

I'd recommend to get the DYNAMIXEL evaluated by our engineers.
Please request repair service for the module if possible.

Hi willson!  Forgive my prolonged silence (1 month!). Holidays and other obligations have taken me away from this problem.

There is no news regarding the problem detected so  I have requested the RMA two days ago, as you suggested.  But I have not received an answer yet. Is this normal?

However, now I'm worried about the other 7 motor.  As I had the problem in the first motor I tried to upgrade  I didn't try to upgrade the other motors.
Should I try to update the firmware of the other 7 motors? After all, upgrading should be a legal, normal and safe operation.  If the problem occurs again then I can also include it in the return shipment.  And it would also check whether it is reproducible or not.
